The History Channel's Vikings inspired this shoot. Stylist Sarah B of Headgames Salon and I both like the hair shown on the show. I mentioned doing a shoot with her and she made it happen, finding the models and props. It is fun to dress out of the norm and play in character role. It may be easier to be photographed that way then in a portrait setting. We chose to shoot at MacWorth Island, in Falmouth Maine, a natural location with water in the background, and avoided including modern elements as best as we could in the background. I think a themed shoot would make for a great bachelorette party. Imagine all your friends with hair styles all going out on the town. Themed bachelorette parties, Vikings hair is a great idea!
When shooting the models I wanted to keep expression to a minimum and go for a more serious look, especially in the older more Lagatha inspired blond model. With use of some props, real chainmail ( which is very heavy), leather, horns, and a sword I wanted it show off the texture and period of the hair style. Here is to a simple style shoot that could easily be replicated for others wanting to have period style hair or simply dress up and play.
