wolfe neck state park portrait session
|
|
|
On a quiet Saturday evening in July I met up with the Duponts at Wolfe Neck State Park for a family portrait session. Carla had found me through some site, and we share being Walnut HIll Alumni. If any of you know Walnut Hill is an amazingly special place, and finding an alum is finding a person who shares a special connection. Carla wanted a shoot with all her boys, especially her beloved 13 year old Leo ( poodle). Early evening is a perfect time to shoot in this potentially contrasty place. The place of the nesting Osprey. It is surreally peaceful. Here are some of our shots.

harpswell maternity portrait session

If you follow my blog at all, or follow my weddings, you may recognize this beautiful blond mom to be. Heather is due to have her baby in late August and we did this maternity shoot while she and Jeremy were in Maine at her family's camp in Harpswell. Seeing these shots of her on the dock reminds me of her wedding shots in her beautiful lace fitting wedding gown, on the dock by the Newagen. Hands down Heather is a natural beauty. And I am not just saying that. The proofs in the pictures. We got lots of shots the original baby, Rueger ( I think his name is ). Rueger kept Jeremy busy while I photographed Heather.

Aimee and Rafe. A wedding I shot in film. 8 years, 3 kids and 4 nikon dslrs later, another shoot. This portrait shoot, like the wedding, shot in midcoast Maine, in July. The wedding day, sunny with lots of smiling cute kids. Portrait shoot, a foggy day dodging thunderstorms, yet still cute kids. Sunshine is secondary for a shoot. Being in the moment is first. Aimee's choice of clothing for the kids, didn't hurt. Neither did the cuteness they created in the 3 kids. I have a yellow dress like the oldest daughter. I saw it in 2007, at a wedding, on a day like this shoot. The yellow stood out against the rainy wedding day. Fast forward to Fall of 2007, dress was on clearance at JCrew here in Freeport. I bought it. Never wore it. I need a foggy day beach shoot like this. YAY for yellow!!! LOVE yellow.
You all may recognize Aimee & Rafe, they may be on of the longest running wedding features on the knot.com. Rafe says he still gets comments that people recognize him from the knot. Not that I advertise on there, but I think that is pretty cool.

sleeping child portrait |

This past weekend my daughter Lucia, featured above, sleeping, took a photo of me sleeping with my iphone. It was on a morning she was trying to get me up to make her breakfast and I wanted to keep sleeping so I asked her to watch her barbie movies on utube on my phone. Sneaky little bugger. I found it a few days later when scrolling through images. So now back at you Lucia! This shot isn't the moment I wanted. I saw the moment I wanted. And thought, get up quietly and go get the camera. Battled laziness. Got up, got it. But her face and lips moved ever so slightly, here the jaw dropped to that almost, old person I didn't put my dentures in yet, and the sweet little face, all be it still sweet, wasn't as cute as what I saw. May this photo serve to remind me, not just Carpe Diem, but carpe the moment. The slip away so quick, A second is all it takes. But get something, because this quiet face I always love to see. Most moms do.

a mother and son portrait session in yarmouth |

Cherie and Nicky and I, and my pug Charlie had a portrait session in Yarmouth down by the river, not far from Cherie;s office. There is a great relationship going on between these two. Nicky is at that age, the borderline of I still love my mom and want to please and... I don't have time for you mom, it's about me and my friends. Reminded me when I met my adopted son Eddie, who is now, 23. I enjoyed this shoot very much. To see more please preview my images on my facebook portfolio.
FYI-Cherie is an awesome massage therapist at Sanctuary Center in Yarmouth. I highly recommend her services.

A Family Affair's Paula Cano threw a party for her mom's 60th birthday. The Mamma Mia Party was held out on Jones Landing on Peaks Island, and the catering was done by Black Tie Co, a place she worked for many years. Paula ability to throw a great party and keep a smile on her face amazes me. Here is a link to a slide show of the moments and details of this visually luscious party on Peaks Island!

Taking myself to seriously has sometimes been my demise. I started to realize this in high school. In January I went to my zumba instructor, Kelly, and asked her if she would model for a personal project I was working on. The project was to take boudoir photography into a realm that felt my own, shoot "boudoir" how I wanted to see it. And not taking ones self too seriously was part of it. What Kelly and I created I HAD NO idea I could take it to this level, because really, it is a RARE thing to find someone, A WOMAN, who can make fun of and with herself like Kelly Newell. I adore Kelly. I have been taking her zumba class since 2008. she smiles every song, every class. Of course, she exercises all the time, and has all those endorphins right? Plus she is goofy. So, in January Kelly arrived for the shoot, wardrobe in hand. We shot at my friend and stylists house, Marteen. Marteen helped with the make up. The look on Marteens 2 year old daughter's face when she first saw Kelly come out of the bathroom in outfit #1, was PRICELESS! I wished I had a wide angle shot of that scene! Please understand that tears were rolling down our faces as we shot this. It has taken me really since January to get this presentation of the shoot in an imovie the way I want it to be seen. Simply because, this is a personal project. Please do watch it. I think we all need to laugh a little more. The lyrics are not PG. I will warn you about that. :)

Whose that guy Lucia asks me. Oh honey that's not a guy, that's a girl with a moustache. Lucia's face gets all screwed up, like why? what? Yah honey, I say, this lady hired me to take pictures of their family gathering over by Wolfe Neck Farm, AND she brought moustaches for all the ladies to wear. Isn't that cool, I say. Lucia is not quite convinced. But I am. Because on a shoot I like for us to have fun. I am glad Patsy brought disguises. And that cool thing her daughter can do with her eye, amazing! |
