Sharyn Peavey is currently working out her home state Maine, utilizing her BFA in photography for her freelance business. Sharyns love for photography began in Liberty, Maine, at age 14, with a Pentax K-1000 and the use of a neighbors darkroom. She began working for the local newspaper's photographer and eventually took her interest to Walnut Hill School for the Arts in Natick Massachussetts. As a student in the Visual Arts dept., she was instrumental in procuring a darkroom at the school. There, she created a wonderful series of black & white portraits, which combined with her other talents in the arts, awarded her an admirable scholarship to the Maryland Institute College of Art in Baltimore. While attending M.I.C.A., Sharyn won numerous awards through the school and local galleries. She began working for local photographers, demonstrating a photographic proficiency that ranged from shoots for Architectural Digest to weddings of prominent society.

It is in Baltimore that Ms. Peavey further developed her talent for photographing weddings, finding her niche in the market for those who approached weddings in an artistic way. After receiving her B.F.A in photography in 1994, Ms. Peavey photographed for a New York Architectural photographer, shooting buildings from D.C. to Boston, eventually ending up in New York City. In New York, not only did she photograph over 400 of the citys buildings, but also assisted eminent wedding photographers and pursued fashion, wedding, and fine art projects. She worked in New York City for five years, during which time, much of her work was published shooting for a prominent garden antique dealer, Barbara Israel. Sharyns works were and are still, being published in Town & Country magazine, the New York Times, the magazine Antiques and Mrs. Israels book, Garden Ornament, Two Centuries of American Taste. |
Sharyn Peavey returned to Maine in the spring of 2001 to escape the hustle and bustle of the big city, and to bring home her profession of photography. Her main direction of work is wedding photography, which allows her to realize the creative satisfaction of personally and artistically documenting such an eventful day, crafting pictures that will be cherished for a lifetime. |
